The Stovall Mill Covered Bridge is the smallest covered bridge in Georgia. The covered bridge is also known as Sautee-Nacoochee, Helen Bridge and Chickamauga Bridge.
In 1965, this century-old mill was moved to Stone Mountain Park from its original site near Ellijay, Georgia, where it was built in 1869.
The Washington W. King Bridge formerly spanned the North Fork of the Oconee River in city of Athens, Georgia connecting College Avenue and Hobson Avenue. The bridge was originally constructed for $2,470 in 1891 by Washington W. King.
This year’s riding season has become my saving grace. A solo ride is a welcomed outdoor activity to keep me grounded during the COVID-19 quarantine.
The community of Indian Springs sprang up after ten acres surrounding the spring were reserved for public use by state statue. Known as Lot Number 1 in the 1827 land lottery, the tract has remained in state custody and holds claim to be the oldest state-owned recreation area in the country.
Tugaloo State Park, situated on a wooded peninsula, offers spectacular views of the 55,590-acre Lake Hartwell.
Starr’s Mill is a historic site located in Fayette county GA. In 1825 Hananiah Gilcoat built the first grist mill along Whitewater Creek.
How cool is it that the famous “The Tree That Owns Itself” is in Athens, GA? A visit to this unique place was on my bucket list of places to ride Spring 2020.
