SAUTEE NACOOCHEE INDIAN MOUND AT THE HARDMAN FARM

SAUTEE NACOOCHEE INDIAN MOUND

The Sautee Nacoochee Indian Mound at The Hardman Farm in White County, Georgia is a great motorcycle road trip

Located two miles outside of Helen at the juncture of Hwys 75 North and 17 South, the Nacoochee Mound is a burial site that more than likely existed before the Cherokee Tribe inhabited the area.

The Cherokee Tribe, unaware of the original purpose, used the artificial mound for their townhouse and ceremonial rites.

During the summer of 1980, Nacoochee Valley, where the mound is located, was placed on the National Register of Historical Places as a historical district.

There is a paved pull off for cars and bikes on Hwy 17 for visitors viewing and photos. If you are in the area, I recommend visiting this Native American historic site.

Also, make sure to visit Helen, Georgia, one of my favorite rides. Helen is known as Georgia’s “Little Bavaria”, a recreation of a Bavarian Alpine Village.

Safe Riding,

Lolo
