Upper Whitewater Falls

WHITEWATER FALLS, CASHIERS, NC

Today was an amazing day to ride and explore waterfalls in north Georgia and across the North Carolina border.

Upper Whitewater Falls, near Cashiers, drops 411 feet and is the highest falls east of the Rocky Mountains.

The entrance to the public parking is closed. Visitors are parking on the pull off on the side of the road and walking around the gate. Be warned the walk from the road to the paved footrail is about .50 miles.

From the start of the paved footrail to the observation area is another .50 miles.

A lower overlook is located at the bottom of 154 wooden steps. The steps down to the lower overlook observation deck are not steep and there is a bench seat halfway down to rest if needed. Please be prepared to walk about 2 miles roundtrip in your bike gear.

Because of the difficult terrain surrounding Whitewater Falls, visitors are urged not venture off the established trails.

The experience is well worth the effort to view the beautiful upper Whitewater Falls near Cashiers, NC.  The Lower Whitewater Falls are located just across the border in South Carolina, and drops another 400 feet.

Also, the views of the Whitewater River and surrounding steep slopes are even more amazing than the Falls.

From Cashiers, NC: Drive south on NC 107 for 9.3 miles. Shortly after crossing the South Carolina state line, turn left at the sign for Whitewater Falls.
