We ride motorcycles because we love the freedom and being one with nature. Motorcyclists have always been a family with a sense of community. We band to together to help our sister or brother on two wheels.
Sisterhood/Brotherhood is biker code. Someone asked me is the brotherhood or sisterhood dead? No, I do not believe brotherhood/sisterhood of motorcycling is dead, but it has evolved. Motorcycling is still a great way to get away from the stress and the pressures of this world.
Change in lifestyle has created an influx of new groups of riders including women riders such as myself who live the lifestyle. According to the latest survey by the Motorcycle Industry Council, nearly 20 percent of motorcycle riders are women. That is up from 10 percent less than a decade ago.
The number of women motorcycle riders is on the incline because of Millennials. The survey found greater ownership among younger generations. Among Millennials, 26 percent of motorcycle owners are women. Among Gen X, 22 percent were women.
The motorcycle industry is investing new bikes designed for first-time riders. They are smaller, lighter, and more affordable than most everything else at the dealership.
“They’re new motorcycles, but they’re also new thinking,” said Mark Hoyer, editor-in-chief of Cycle World magazine. “They’re selling this perception of lifestyle…it’s a cultural movement; a re-branding of the whole motorcycle industry.”
