Have you ever been bored and restless on a Sunday afternoon? It happens occasionally. My remedy for boredom is a spontaneous motorcycle ride that includes a body of water. I am a water sign “Cancer”. So, it’s no surprise that I need to be surrounded by water to rejuvenate my spirit, mind and body.
A few weeks ago, I rode to the Amicalola Falls State Park which is an 829-acre Georgia state park located between Elijay and Dahlonega in Dawsonville, GA. Amicalola means “tumbling waters” in the Cherokee language. Per Wikipedia, the park is home to Amicalola Falls, a 729-foot waterfall that is the highest in GA.
The Amicalola Falls are quite beautiful even during our recording breaking heat and severe drought. However, the hidden jewel is the Maple Restaurant inside the lodge. The food is traditional American and Southern cuisine. The food is delicious and huge portion sizes! Plus, the menu prices are very affordable. Buffet dining is also available during certain hours. The restaurant offers beautiful views of the mountains. The wait staff is thoughtful and friendly. One example of the southern hospitality, our waitress brought us lemonade to go at no charge as a gift to take with us to keep us cool on our motorcycle ride.
If you are ever in the GA mountains, I recommend visiting the Amicalola Falls State Park and dining at the Maple Restaurant. Don’t worry if your knees don’t allow you to hike the trails, this park has an easily accessible rubber trail (awesome for your knees and joints) for visitors which is a short hike. Visitors can take amazing pictures of the Amicalola Falls from this vantage point. If you are thinking “rubber trail?”. The best description that I can provide is the rubber material appears to be rubber from car tires or like the turf material used to construct football fields. Trust me, it’s soft, steady, buoyant and offers great arch support! If it makes me left knee feel good, then I am going to automatically give two thumbs up and 5-star rating!!
