My favorite hobbies include riding my Can Am Spyder RS SE5 and watching a movie with a good plot twist. Long before Georgia became the leader in feature film productions, scenes for the feature film Fried Green Tomatoes were shot at the Whistle Stop Café (Original) in Juliette, GA in the early 1990s. Fried Green Tomatoes is one of those endearing movies that pulls at my heart strings and has a good plot twist.
I took the opportunity to combine both of my loves by embarking on beautiful Fall ride through the Georgia countryside to eat lunch at the Whistle Stop Café (Original), 443 Mccrackin Street, Juliette, GA 31046. As I turned onto Mccrackin Street, I was immediately transported back in the eras of the 1920’s – 1940’s in rural Georgia. Several picturesque original structures are still standing. Immediately, I could smell the familiar aroma of southern foods including fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, potatoes, pork chops, and baked pies!
Mccrackin Street is small with a handful of fascinating shops including antiques to browse through while waiting on a table. As you walk alongside the road, you will notice license plates from all over the United States. I was warmly greeted by tourists and locals. My best description of the food is amazing, affordable, and huge portions! I recommend skipping breakfast and bringing a big appetite. The service was friendly and quick considering the large volume of customers. You can expect to wait 60 – 90 minutes to be seated on the weekend.
The motorcycle ride from metro Atlanta to Juliette, GA is very easy relaxing ride either by interstate or taking the state roads to enjoy the scenic route. I elected the scenic route because I am a Mississippi girl who can’t get enough of riding the countryside. This a great motorcycle trip with a group or solo ride. Details are listed below.
